POPS
is a non-profit, volunteer organization who's staff and
participants are all dedicated to providing quality live
theater to Okinawa.
We
put on 4-5 shows a year. Show ideas are submitted
and voted on in the Summer by members of the club
(but, if you are willing to be the director, your
submission will probably be approved).
All
money raised is used to put on more shows and annually
award an
Ed Kirstein Memorial Scholarship
to deserving High School seniors
who wish to pursue "the arts" in college.
Bring your ideas. Bring your friends. Bring your
enthusiasm to Okinawa's Community Theater! POPs. If you want to become a member of POPs just download the membership form , fill it out, then:
--Bring it to the next POPs monthly meeting. Get a cookie, maybe win a prize.
Or Bring it to the next POPs production. Meet the cast and crew. Get a tour.
Or Bring it to a rehearsal. We are at the theater (when we can) after 6pm. (It is baffling why it's so hard for the only performing arts group to get time in the only Performing Arts Auditorium!)
You can volunteer to help with the show!
But DON'T just send it to us. Bring it yourself. We want to MEET you!
Much of the tech
stuff (set, lights, sound, props, ect.) has fallen
onto the backs of the same (too few) dedicated
volunteers. Be a part of the most important & exciting aspect
of any production (sorry actors, it's true!). Set
construction, Stage effects, Sound effects, Microphone/Speaker
placement, Lighting effects, Fog/smoke, Custom built
props... Making magic takes talent, craft and
teamwork. Not sure how? We happily train newbies.
